  Beim 1962 gedrehten Film "Gesprengte Ketten" (The great escape) leitet Walter Riml das zweite Kamerateam. Chefkameramann ist Daniel Fapp. Die Regie hat John Sturges. Das Drehbuch schrieb James Clavell. Gedreht wird in den Bavaria Studios, im Großraum München und an verschiedenen Orten im Allgäu (Füssen, Pfronten, Schwangau, etc.). Große Stars sind für den Film verpflichtet. Steve McQueen, Richard Attenborough, James Garner, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Donald Pleasence und Gordon Jackson wirken mit. Nach einer wahren Begebenheit erzählt der Film die Geeschichte des Massenausbruchs von Kriegsgefangenen aus einem deutschen Gefangenenlager. Bis heute begeistert der perfekt fotografierte und inszenierte Film mit seinen brillant agierenden Schauspielern viele Fans in der ganzen Welt.

Wir freuen uns sehr, dass sich im Nachlass von Walter Riml rund 170 Negative von den Dreharbeiten, zahlreiche Tagesdispositionen, sogenannte "Call sheets" , sowie das Drehbuch erhalten haben.

In 1962 Walter Riml was engaged as the chief of the 2nd unit camerateam. The film was directed and produced by John Sturges. The screenplay was written by James Clavell. The team filmed on locations in the Bavaria Studios Munich, around Munich and on several locations in the Allgäu (Pfronten, Füssen, Schwangau, ect). A lot of very famous stars like Steve McQueen, Richard Attenborough, James Garner, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Donald Pleasence and Gordon Jackson were engaged. The film tells the real story about an escape by allied prisoners of war from a German POW camp during WW II. Until today fans all around the world are excited about the story, the perfect photography and the brilliant actors.

We´re really happy that we could find around 170 negatives of the shooting, several call sheets and the screenplay in Walter Rimls estate.
